Director Ellory Eikayem should be proud of himself. He managed to do what I guess was his intention. To create a monster movie that's updated with the effect making tools of today. It is the best thing in this movie. They are real good. But even if they look awesome, you still have the feeling that it is spiders walking around in a miniature world. How you can call those good effects, you may wonder. But I think it's been done on purpose, as a tribute to all of the original monster films. And that's cool.
The story is easy. Hero returns to hometown. Evil guy politician try to fool everybody. Hero still finds that he still has feelings for old flame. In the background the spiders drinks toxic water and grows. This is the biggest weakness of the film. You know what will happen in the next scene. Not so much original grips. We see spiders jumping, we see motorbikes jumping, do the math. We see spiders attacking from under ground; we see ostriches on a ground and guess what? Yes you are right. We see cat, we see hole, cat in hole. I could go on like this forever. I saw this movie one day when I was suffering from a big hang over. And it fitted a weak brain just perfectly.
Another thing that fitted the simple minded is the humour in this movie. It's easy laughter's all the way. That's what makes this such a good one and a half hour entertainment.
Some may think that this movie don't belong in the horror sections. And they are right. But it is a fun movie, and I would recommend it. And if you have a thing for spiders, you're in for the best ride since 1990s "Arachnophobia".
And if we had to crank about anything in this movie it have to be the hero, David Arquette. I think he is misplaced in the leading role. He tries some jokes, but they fall. I can't put my finger on it but he is not believable. He doesn't sucks, but he is not so good either.
I will watch this movie again, when it runs on the television, but I will not go and buy it.
