This is one of the sound movies earliest classics. Merian C. Cooper’s fantastic monkey – movie was done back in 1933. It’s a great movie with a bizarre story. A big bad gigantic monkey, named Kong, is captured and brought to New York. This to be shown for the public, and thereby is making the captures filthy rich. Everything goes fine, but when the, by chains hold Kong, sees his beloved human woman being photographed, he think she is in danger. He gets mad and breaks free, to rescue her. The city goes nut, when King Kong takes his woman and climbs the Empire State building.
There are many cool things to see in this old movie. The dialog between the sailor and the young actress on the ship is fantastic. What a romantic dude he is. Ha! “Hey there, I think maybe I love you!†He says something that stupid. I laughed my as off. And the effects are fantastic! Even if they through the years have gone from “Scary†to “Funny†the still is a fantastic job. It must have been the “Matrix†of its time. It is so cool when Kong checks if his victims are dead, and then drums his chest. And when he comes to take the woman outside the tribe’s fence. Threes are falling and she, 26 old Faye Wray, screams her lounges out. And Kong un-ties her by spinning the pin! He got brains!! And when he damages the tribe-village. What a fury! Kong’s evil eyes in that scene are awesome.
King Kong from 1933 is way better than the one that came -76 with Jessica Lange as Kong’s bride. Let’s see if the original can stand firm against the version that “Lord of the ring†director Peter Jackson is said to have plans shooting.
Doghead recommend this matinee horror movie.
Fact for fun: The sound of Kong is a combination of a lion and a tiger screaming angry. But it is played reversed.
